Our school is unique in that it has a large place in the heart of a small community, but this small community is what makes it such a special place. Adin Ballou founded Hopedale with the mission of founding a utopian society, and in many ways, this dream lives on in everyday life. Look no further than Room 223.
Though most of my students were born and are being raised in the tiny "Dale of Hope," each student has their own story to share.
We are a diverse group of learners. My students understand the importance of supporting one another and embracing each other's differences with kindness and acceptance. These are young adults who want to embrace learning for the sake of learning in a place that is safe for them to be themselves.
My Project
Many of these materials will contribute to the whole-class learning experience. Some students learn better through movement, so the ball chairs will allow for my "fidgeters" to appropriately channel their energy while still focusing on classwork. By having a "lit lounge," students will be able to engage with each other in a more comfortable setting that lends itself to collaboration.
It is stressful being a high school student today, and anxiety decreases students' performance in the classroom.
By setting up the classroom in a way that is more inviting, students may feel more comfortable to share their thoughts and emotions about what it is we are studying.
