My Students

My students in Chicago are unique, creative, silly, smart, and fun. They are extremely special and require a little extra help through occupational therapy at school to help them be as independent as possible in the classroom.

My students think of OT as a safe space to make mistakes and learn!

Mistakes are encouraged as tools to grow and to learn strategies that help them in the classroom. I try to provide my students with activities that are fun so they will look forward to coming to OT and to apply skills they use with me in their classes.

My Project

Occupational therapy within schools focuses on helping students learn how to do everything they need to be able to do throughout the school day. This can include handwriting, dressing, opening packages at lunch, navigating the school environment to find their classroom, organizing their supplies, behavioral regulation, sensory strategies to help with independent functioning, and SO MUCH MORE!

If you were to observe one of my occupational therapy sessions with students you would think all we do is play- yet playing is something kids love to do and it can be transferred to functional skills!

If a child is able to manipulate small game pieces or a puzzle, they are better able to control their pencils or crayons when writing. If a kid who is a movement seeker is able to bounce up and down on a ball while in class they are better able to pay attention to their teacher.

These supplies will help me provide lots of different options for my OT students. I would love to use these supplies to further help them prosper and gain independence in the school environment!
