Putting the Fun in Fitness!

My Students

I have a class of 25 amazing kindergarten children, many of whom are ESL and/or special needs. My school is located in an area where most of its residents live below the poverty line and many students living in apartments and shared multi-generational households. All the children in our school now receive a free school lunch.

Since the pandemic, our whole and small group meetings have been structured to be a safe, comfortable, and accepting place for them to socialize, as well as focus and concentrate on their academic and creative success.

We are extremely lucky that our parents are wholehearted supporters and partners of their children's education.

My Project

Fitness has never been more important in school settings. Due to the pandemic, children have been forced to remain sedentary for a year and a half. It has been well-established that physical inactivity contributes to increased health risk for developing a multitude of chronic diseases.

Regular physical activity can help children build strong bones and muscles, reduce anxiety and depression, and improve cardiovascular health.

The items that I am requesting for my students promote the importance of health and wellness in organized physical activities, while also teaching them how to work together as a team. The hoops, cones, balance beam, jump ropes and beanbags will be used to make fitness fun!
