Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Resilient Super-Heroes". That's what I'd call my ALL of my students. After overcoming the after effects of Hurricane Harvey my students were met with another challenging obstacle. A mid-year teacher replacement.
However fortunate they were to have an excellent first semester teacher, it can be a challenge to most 4th graders getting a new teacher with new teaching styles and expectations.
How did they face this challenge you ask. With smiles, jokes, and lots of positive attitudes. I truly admire their resiliency and their ever-lasting positive outlook on all things they come to face.
My Project
Let's face it, writing can seem like a daunting task to a 4th grade student. Add in a mixture of standardized testing and out of touch writing prompts, and it can make even the most creative teacher run out of ideas for motivation.
I want my students to have the opportunity create.
I want them to have the opportunity to create something they can be proud of. With Chromebooks they can do just that. They can type paragraphs instead of write them in pencil. They can add illustrations or effects to personalize their work. They can also save and work under the guarantee that by using Google Docs they will never lose their work.
An important step in the writing process is collaborating with the students and provided feedback to enhance their writing techniques. With a Chromebook I would be able to do this in realtime. Having the opportunity to use our time effectively will allow more one-on-one time and a more meaningful student/teacher relationship.
The list goes on and on. Technology opens limitless doors to everyone in the classroom. Please help us end this year creatively and effectively!
