My Students

My students love to create new things and work to solve problems. Additionally, they don't mind challenges and can even find hard work fun. Our students use the library to explore, create, research, and learn. We strive to prepare our kids for the future in ways that are relevant and engaging.

The kids at my school are comprised of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders from diverse backgrounds.

There is a fairly even balance of the "haves" and the "have-nots" in our school, but we have a strong sense of community among our kids.

My Project

We have been experimenting with screen printing and t-shirt design in our makerspace and we are ready to get more serious. Because STEAM education is such a big part of what we do, we are hoping to have our main focus be on art and design.

What better way to show off your learning than by wearing a custom t-shirt that you designed and created?

In this project, students will first learn how to design using vector art. Secondly, we will use the screen printing emulsion and the silk screen materials to help us in the screen printing process. The designs will be "burned" into silk screens with the halogen light and then we will be able to finish the process by actually printing to the shirts through a process called silk screening.

Throughout this process, the kids will learn the principles of good logo design and have hands-on opportunities to learn a new skill.
