HELP SCIENCE STUDENTS SEE SCIENCE THROUGH SIGHT!
My students are from the Lower East Side in NYC and come from low-income families. Many live in the projects and come from single-parent homes. Some live in shelters. Some have been shot at and are exposed to violence and drugs on a daily basis. More than any other students, these are the ones who need the best education possible to transcend from where they currently are. Research has shown that lower-class students, as compared with middle-class students, are equipped with a much lower vocabulary. Using images will hep them immensely.
One of the reasons science is so fascinating to students is because it's so real and they see amazing science images and clips on television, the Internet, and in books! With an LCD projector, my students can see many colorful science images and video clips during my mini-lessons. Imagine the reaction from the students when they see a magnified image of a snowflake or a picture of an erupting volcano! Hopefully, they'll learn more science through sight and who knows, some may be inspired to be scientists! These students deserve the best education and a LCD projector will help that.
