Our students range in age from 3-5 years and have varying levels of developmental delays. We are situated in a public Headstart/Pre-K building but are considered part of the school system which poses some problems (most often with funding).
Parents often have a hard time letting their "babies" come to school for the first time at such a young age, often when they can't communicate, however, when they are able to verbalize the details of the day or share something they made during the day, it makes it all worth it.
The absolute best part of my job is when one of my kiddos "gets it" for the first time and you can see the light in his/her eyes. Then I know, without a doubt, that I am exactly where I am supposed to be!
I currently am teaching twenty-three children, some are in the 3-year-old program and some in the 4-year-old program, and they have varying levels of support. The ultimate goal is to prepare them with the tools they need and the intervention (early) in order to remediate any delays we can and make the kiddos as functional in a general education classroom as possible.
My Project
Preschool students learn through play and movement opportunities. It is our job to make those opportunities as valuable and as plentiful as possible. It is also my job, as their teacher, to make those opportunities FUN!!
I consider myself the luckiest, the most blessed person in the world, to get to interact with and be impacted by these children every day!
I want to give me EVERY experience possible during the short time that I have them in my care.
We are asking for additional blocks, puzzles, and manipulatives to add to our classroom centers. These items would allow the children to have more choices and be able to truly express themselves through interaction and play.
