Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a Title I, STEAM school. The focus is on science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. As the art teacher I have an unique opportunity to show our students how art enhances and connects to our other focus areas of science, technology, engineering, and math.

Students at our school enjoy thinking outside of the box and pushing the boundaries of what is art, and what can be used to make art.

My students enjoy not only using traditional techniques and materials, such as painting and drawing, but seem to excel at finding new techniques and materials to create with. From upcycled projects that reuse our garbage and recyclables to digital art that use technology to create art.

I am constantly finding new ways to challenge my students and they keep not only rising to the challenge but exceeding expectations. In my classroom it is not just about making art, but rather becoming a problem solver and creative critical thinker.

My Project

My students are extremely innovative and creative, as well as thrifty. They have been thriving creating sculpture from recyclables and limited sculpture supplies. However I want to give them experiences creating art with 21st century technology and materials, the use of 3D printer pens would fill this gap in their learning.

Putting 3D printer pens into their hands would allow them to continue to create innovative sculpture, but now using cutting edge technology.

Students would also be able to apply the concepts of science, technology, engineering and math into their design and creation with the use of the 3D printer pens. Extra filament and mats will allow for safe use and allow them no restrictions in their creation.
