Puttin' on the Ritz

My students need white gloves for their black light performances, CD's to record their practice tracks and a chair for their directors office which currently has none.

My Students

Help! Our school is facing huge budget cuts. We recently purchased black lights, but need gloves to start choreographing for our performance. We constantly purchase small amounts of Cd's to record practice tracks for my students to use at home. Adding a teacher and I am in need of another chair.

My students are in grades 5-12 in the music program.

This is a public school where all students receive musical training. We live in an area that is not close to many cultural activities, so it is imperative that teaching and programs bring much of that into the classroom. With a failed mill levy and losing one of the music teachers, it is a time to really look for ways of bringing more to the students. My classroom is band/choir/general music at different levels. They are very creative and love to express themselves, although it is difficult for them to do this at concerts so I am looking for ways to help them achieve success in this area.

My Project

Turn out the lights and turn on the creativity! I want my students to perform in the dark with black lights and white gloves to inspire their creativity and get over some inhibitions about performing. Many grade levels will be able to use them and the students will LOVE working in this medium. I am constantly digging into my own pocket to purchase Cd's to record practice tracks for my band and choir students. Help me send the audio teacher home with them to practice their music. The last item I am requesting is to help with the addition of a teacher in my classroom next year. I have an extra desk, but no chair to go with it.

In a school where funding can be sketchy at times, having new items will make a difference in retaining students in the music program.

When a student can be a part of an incredible performance, they get positive recognition from their peers and family. Sometimes this is the only classroom where a student can excel, help me give them a lifeskill, music is a gift for life!
