This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students live in a poverty-stricken, urban neighborhood. Many come from broken and unstable homes. They attend a Title I school and are eligible for free lunch.

Our school's population is made up of African-American, Hispanic, and foreign students, mostly African, Vietnamese, and Kurdish students.

Many of them are learning English as a second language. It is important for them to be able to express themselves through their art. My students love art! They thrive in an artistic environment. They need opportunities to show how creative they can be.

My Project

Every year my school puts on a play and our students have to make the backdrops. This year the play is "Annie". We used up all of our acrylic paints making backdrops for last year's play. With my limited budget, I can't afford to buy more paint and still have enough money left over to buy other supplies that I need to teach my lessons.

My students love to paint!

They get great satisfaction out of working with their peers to create these large backdrops. They always feel proud when the rest of the school and their families see it at the play.
