it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is a school that serves students with a variety of special needs including autism, intellectual disability and emotionally disturbed. From the outside looking in, people may assume they are not athletic and physically incapable, but they are wrong! Our students compete in the highest levels of competitive sports. We participate (and win) in Special Olympics games, CHAMPS middle school athletics and run in New York Road Runner events.
Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.
Our students do not back down from a challenge. That is what I love most about this age group and population. They love to be active. They love sports. They love physical education.
My Project
We are the Otters! Our brand new Track team needs pedometers to monitor our progress as we run! Our student-athletes will be able to determine the distance travelled on foot, as well as provide measurement of energy expended, time and heart rate monitoring. Our student-athletes will become more knowledgeable and overall better track athletes.
10,000 steps per practice?
We sure can! Our students will compete in the New York Road Runners events which combine structured running with fitness activities to give students a fun and rewarding experience, so they want to continue to be active for the rest of their lives. These pedometers will help unify our group to become a supportive and collaborative running team.
