Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are adventurous and are always looking to dig deeper and decode the language of music. At our K-8 Pilot School, we serve students from all over the city including a significant population of low income, English language learners and special education students. Their curiosity is a perfect match for the endless possibilities of music.

I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of their journey by exploring one of the most magical parts of the school day.

My Project

Our students have expressed interest in creating a pep band. We have the instruments, but now we need a library full of music that will help us rev the crowd up during our performances!

All music students are welcome to join our pep band and will hopefully find a sense of community.

The goal is to have a go-to band when it is time for our sports games, rallies, or just to pop up and play for celebrations! This idea was created by students, and I can’t wait to see how this will affect their sense of ownership if this project is funded!
