Mr. Carroll from Greensboro NC is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a TV in the gym to view presentations or other visuals I create on a laptop computer to enrich and enhance the PE learning experience.

Children love technology. I want to embrace that love and draw them to being physically active. Whether seeing diagrams of the muscles or viewing clips of their favorite activity, projecting documents, applications, and videos from a laptop computer will enrich each PE experience.
Our school is a publicly funded Montessori magnet school.
Our students apply and are selected via a lottery system. Our student population is very diverse in both ethnicity and socioeconomic status. However, when they walk in the door, all are treated equally. Our students are good friends who look out for one another, whether in kindergarten or fifth grade. I have been able to offer the students a variety of activities, adding what I can when money is available. I have also purchased and/or built materials to enhance our program. However, the students deserve so much more. They deserve to have the latest technology we can provide, age appropriate equipment and a PE program that builds character, self-esteem, and responsibility towards themselves and others. Our gym is a very old gym, at least 75 years old, with few updates over the years. The acoustics in the gym are quite bad and can be distracting to learning.
Physical education is changing every day for the better. No longer is it a class where balls are distributed to students who then go "play." Instead, we integrate science, literature, math, and social studies into the lessons all while we encourage regular physical activity. Having a TV that I can connect a laptop to will allow me to display images of the latest technology in a way that the students will understand. Seeing the presentations, pictures, video clips, and graphs as a group will increase the time on task and promote maximum learning. It is important to take advantage of each moment to acquire the "bonus knowledge" that presents itself during those precious teachable moments. There are so many resources available via the internet which can be combined with the resources provided with the PE curriculum. It is vital that I introduce every student to the wealth of information available via the internet and resource CD's, especially to those who do not have computer access.
As society continues to rely on technology, physical education needs to evolve as well.
I need to bring real world experiences to children to reach them at an early age. Using a television connected to a computer will provide a group of students access to technology that will foster their love for physical activity as I continue to encourage a lifelong active lifestyle. I would appreciate all the support I can get. Thank you.
