My Students
My students are motivated by their dreams. The 12 and 13 year-olds in my classroom yearn for success and opportunities. These students ask critical questions about the world around them and why things are not equitable in our society. They see and are impacted by the violence in our communities. Summer vacations don't provide much solace because their parents fear for their child's safety. Regardless of the social and economic burdens that follow my students, they work hard because they see glimmers of a better tomorrow.
My Project
As more students come into the classroom for in-person learning they are rekindleing their love of books and reading. After more than a year of staying home and not having much access to high interest books, they are perusing the classroom library for something that will peak their interests.
Having high interest books in the classroom will encourage my students, many of whom have not read in quite some time, to pick up a book and rediscover the joy and love of reading.
