Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I facilitate an afterschool coding and robotics club for students in grades K-6 at a Title 1 school. My goal is to provide access to cutting-edge technology, ensuring that all students have the tools they need to succeed in their future endeavors. To diversify and enhance the coding experiences of my students, I continually research and learn about innovative robotics. Recently, I attended and presented at the Utah Coalition for Educational Technology (UCET) conference, where I discovered the remarkable capabilities of Ozobots. It would be a dream come true to bring these amazing robots to the students in my coding club!

Ozobots are miniature robots that students program using colored lines.

Each color corresponds to a specific function, which allows students to engage in creative coding and computational fluency. This hands-on experience not only fosters technical skills but also encourages students to express their artistic abilities, aligning with research that highlights the importance of integrating the arts with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

Our program includes several students who are multilingual and may feel more comfortable communicating in their home languages. Ozobots provide a unique opportunity for these students to practice coding in an engaging and less intimidating environment, helping to build their confidence in both coding and English communication.

The integration of Ozobots into our afterschool robotics program will enhance our students' learning experiences by combining coding with art and creativity. Generous donations will enable us to acquire Ozobots, supporting our mission to provide all students with the technology and skills necessary for their future success. Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to bringing Ozobots to my coding students!
