My Students
Take a moment to think about your kindergarten experience. Did you just get a feeling of nostalgia, too? Kindergarten is an amazing and fun time that teaches you the foundations of reading, writing, and math.
The children I teach are energetic, wonderful, hardworking students.
Some of them come from situations that no one should ever experience. They impress me every day with their awesome attitudes and desire to learn. We are a full-day kindergarten class at a Title I school. Most of our students qualify for the free breakfast and lunch program. The student population is 33% Caucasian, 26% Hispanic, 12% Asian, 11% African American, and 28% other.
My Project
Teaching kindergarten during a world pandemic is one of the most difficult things I have ever done in my life. It is now more important than ever that I develop and foster my students social emotional skills by setting a daily routine and allowing my students to work together with peers to accomplish daily tasks. I am going to do this by setting up engaging learning stations that will allow my students to work together as a team! As you know, team work makes the dream work!
My goal is to provide enough differentiated resources so my students can work together to master their foundational skills so they will be ready for 1st grade.
I have requested a multitude of literacy items that can be used throughout the year. I am requesting: Alphabet Soup Beginning Sound Sort, Lets Talk Conversation Starters, Alphabet Mystery Sounds, and Teachers Pay Teachers gift cards so I am able to purchase the 2nd edition of the successfully vetted guiding readers program. These items will help my students master the following standards:
ELA RF.K.3
ELA RF.K.3a
RF.K.3c
Speaking and Listening SL.K.1
Speaking and Listening SL.K.1a
Writing W.K.1
Writing W.K.3
I've also requested many math resources such as: Shape Sorting Center, Geostix, Lakeshore Counting Cones, Find the Number, and Squish and Squeeze Sensory Beads. These items will be very helpful and will allow my students to work together to learn the basic math foundations that are needed in order to be successful in their future math endeavors. These items also develop their fine motor skills. The items I have requested will support the following standards:
Nearly all students from low‑income households
