Push and Pull: The Science of Sledding

My students need these sleds in order to enjoy our sledding hill. We would share these sleds with the entire kindergarten class (there are currently 9 kindergarten classes at our school).

My Students

My kindergarten students attend a rural school district and love to play and learn. They are between the ages of four and seven and are very active learners. They enjoy playing with each other, and the conversations they have when they are allowed to play freely are so engaging! They learn so much from each other without even realizing it.

My Project

While we will be "playing" in the snow and sledding we will also be learning about the forces necessary for sledding. We will also be working on our social skills of sharing and working together towards a common goal. We will use the sleds to complete experiments involving forces and determining ways to stop, go faster, go further, what happens when an object is in the way...The best part of this project is the sleds will provide the opportunity for hands on discovery and will give all of the students a common experience from which they can lead the conversation.
