My students need some new books in order to get excited about real careers in the science field.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Mark's classroom raised $160

My Students
Many of my students think that if you like Science you either become a scientist or you become a doctor/nurse. I want to help them expand their view of what it means to have a career in Science - especially for my female students who often end up choosing different career paths.
My students are academically diverse, but consist of mainly low income, racial minorities, from an urban neighborhood in Boston.
My school expects great things from all of our students, regardless of their background. We strive to inspire students to reach their potential through a rigorous curriculum strong in reading and writing. We want them to have successful lives through pursuing some sort of post-secondary education after college. At our school ALL teachers, even myself as a Science teacher, are responsible for the literacy (reading and writing) development of our students. Our students have reading for 25 minutes of the school day, and are responsible for independently reading two books on their own throughout each semester.
My Project
I would like my students to choose the books I have requested as independent reading books throughout the year. While they will be valuable to all students who enjoy Science and are interested in Science careers, they will be especially valuable to my female students. Too often female students do not pursue STEM careers, and my hope is that through reading these books many of my young ladies will be motivated into one of these careers.
Please consider making a donation for these books.
They will help my students learn more about careers in Science, especially girls who have careers in Science, while at the same time helping my students improve their literacy skills.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
