My Project

Play is essential to learning and development in the early childhood years. Young children experiment with new skills through play, which supports the development of new competencies and furthers cognitive development.

Nontraditional learning spaces, such as the Lakeshore Heavy-Duty All-In-One Kitchen for purposeful play area, can provide excellent opportunities for children to engage in purposeful play that supports their well-being, cognitive and identity development, and promotes positive emotional experiences.

My students will have the opportunity to explore creatively with their peers to pretend play, problem solve, extend our core curriculum lessons in a nontraditional way by subtly changing out manipulatives to fit the current standards we're covering. For example, it can be used to pretend play house for interpersonal and emotional connection and learning, or as a restaurant to practice counting coins, or even a bakery where they will practice reading/following directions or even writing their own recipes. They will also practice important social skills, higher level executive functioning skills, and problems solving skills as they interact and work with other students in the dramatic play area.
