I have the privilege of working with some of the most talented, creative, and caring students in kindergarten- 1st grade. They all have unique talents and learning styles. In order to help them all achieve their goals we need to resources that support development and growth.
The items I selected are focused primarily on kitchen, sensory, and early literacy developments.
The kitchen equipment was picked because it’s safe, sturdy, and developmental appropriate for our students. Skills learned in a kitchen or restaurant setting are endless in many areas such as math, literacy, and functional. Having a kitchen area to practice skills will also allow them to generalize the what they learned to other areas of the school and at home as well as improving their speech and language skills. The students will also learn about early literacy and fine motor skills with the use of sensory sand and being able to build/ assemble letters.
The students I teach are in special education so the more hands-on and practical life experience we can give them will benefit them greatly long term. Also students learn best when they are engaged and when using multi sensory approaches.
