Many people think that middle school students are a separate species of beings;) I'm here to tell you that their uniqueness is what makes them so lovable. They are special because they are big kids on the outside but little kids on the inside. You can reason with them and do higher level activities, yet they still love rewards like stickers. Puppies can certainly be compared to middle schoolers in terms of their abilities to be trained, hyper-activity levels and exuberant response to rewards!
Most of my students just need a little extra TLC and help getting through the required curriculum for their grade level.
I teach students with a wide variety of disabilities in a resource room setting. We spend time in resource improving individual skills and reviewing content from their classes while practicing study and organizational skills.
A little more information about our school: We live in a small city and everyone in our school qualifies for free breakfast and lunch each day. School is a safe place in my students' tumultuous lives.
My Project
Many of my students have disabilities including autism and ADHD. They need nontraditional seating options in order to help them be successful in school. Their unique brains make it difficult for them to concentrate and focus when seated in the chair and at the desk you probably sat in during your school days. Students thrive when given choices to help them feel in control of their own learning and education.
