This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a kindergarten teacher, I’m lucky to witness the joy on my students’ faces every day. We’re excited to bring that same joy to our community through a special event that puts our amazing students front and center.
Our school is made up primarily of families from the Somali community, and many of our students face unique challenges.
This event is a way for them to find their voice and share their light with others.
The highlight of the event will be a student-led puppet show, where the children will share stories that reflect kindness, empathy, and the beauty of differences. We will also host a community read-aloud session, where older students will help read books aloud to families and younger children.
To make the event even more memorable, families will receive a laminated keepsake photo and a small take-home item. We’ll also be using laminated sheets for invitations and books so everyone can keep these special moments. In addition, we’ll incorporate dolls and accessories to help illustrate how people with different abilities live, thrive, and contribute to their communities.
Our goal is to spread joy, foster understanding, and celebrate the power of every voice. Everyone deserves kindness, and we hope this community puppet show will be a reminder of how wonderful it is when we all come together.
