My Project

After returning from winter break I discovered 400+ books, puppets, dolls, dress-up clothes and blankets were destroyed by water damage. A pipe burst in the classroom ceiling at the start of winter break and 80% of materials in our classroom library and dramatic play area were destroyed. Unfortunately, our classroom collection of puppets were soaked too and left in plastic bags leaving them to mildew over winter break.

These materials have been acquired and carefully curated during my 22 years as an educator.

Many of the items are no longer available. However, many of the students' favorite books are easily accessible. Titles like "The Three Little Kittens", Elephant and Piggie", books by Mo Willems and Eric Carle and classics like "Caps for Sale" and "The Three Billy Goats Gruff" can be replaced. Likewise I have identified many puppets that pair wonderfully with our favorite books. This grant will help to replace some of the materials and bring some normalcy back into the classroom routine.
