My students need glasses. Glasses will allow my students to see clearly and become better readers. Also, glasses will brighten their world, and students will able to see the endless possibilities in front of them.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Can you imagine not being able to see clearly? Squinting to see the board, getting headaches from straining your eyes, not being able to focus because everything is fuzzy around you. Can you imagine how difficult it is to learn? Can you imagine how the students must constantly have to work to focus in the classroom to learn? Can you imagine knowing you NEED glasses and not being able to get a pair of glasses because your family just can't afford them?
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, the students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.
Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to make their lives CLEARER. Many children are struggling because they do not have glasses. For reasons out of my hand, the students cannot get what they desperately need- - GLASSES. I can only imagine what these students can accomplish if they have the ability to see clearer!
My Project
My students need glasses. Providing a pair of glasses to 30 children will make a tremendous difference. Not only do the children need glasses, they also need a full eye exam. Optomety services will be provided by National Eye Care. The children will be provided with a full eye exam at school and follow up with fittings for students who received glasses. Warby Parker will provide glasses frames and lenses.
I asked some of the students what having a new pair of glasses would mean to them:
"A new pair of glasses will help me see better, especially when I am reading! I will be able to see the signs around the school and around the neighborhood." 4th grade student
"A new pair of glasses will help me stay focused and see better."
3rd grade student
"A new pair of glasses will help me focus in the classroom and learn more." 5th grade student
This project is to help the students reach their academic goals with success. To help them reach their goals, they need to first see the world CLEARER.
