My students are bright, curious, and loving three and four-year-olds from a small, rural community. Over 75% of the students in our school receive free or reduced price lunches. Even with limited financial resources, the students strive to do their best. They are eager to learn and a joy to teach.
Each day I look forward to helping my students become successful learners.
When I look into their smiling faces, I wonder how I can inspire them to become all they can be. I feel privileged to be one of the first teachers to touch their lives.
During the fall, our students do an entire unit about pumpkins. Most of my students have never been on a farm to see a pumpkin patch. The students will get the opportunity to pick their own pumpkin, go on a tractor trailer ride, and play on their hay bale slides.
Being able to visit a farm will bring their learning to life.
So often we can only read about a topic, but being able to see pumpkins actually growing on a vine and touch those vines, then pick the pumpkins will make the students' learning a part of them. I can't wait to see the amazement on my students' faces when they see the ground covered in pumpkins and feel the vines, all prickly and smooth at the same time. I know the memory of this trip will make a lasting impression.
