This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are urban scholars that have so much potential without the resources to match. While the neighborhood they live in has been developing, many of the resources have not reached the sections where their families reside. They are inquisitive students that range in age and ability. My students enjoy learning and have different learning styles. They love to use computers when they come to school because many do not have access at home. Some of my students can tell you about the latest video games or what Apps they use on their parent's smartphones, while others have a television set as their most advanced technology.
When there is a challenge, that is when my students really come to life.
It is a joy to see them deep in thought or trying to discover something new. Many of my students have special needs and require accommodations for learning. Although my students can get easily distracted, they do not let that keep them from trying out new technology in the classroom. They rely upon one another to learn how to use and solve problems with technology in class. My students learn that if they work hard, greatness will be the outcome.
My Project
The materials I am requesting will change the way my students develop and finish their work. In the past, my students have created word documents and powerpoint presentations. Much of the work they did was lost due to computer viruses. My students were unable see their work outside of the computer due to a lack of printing supplies or portable drives. The work they did was lost before they had an opportunity to make it better or publish it.
With this project my students will be able to save their work; they can share and edit work at home if they want using portable flash drives.
This project focuses not just on the outcome, but the process that it takes to create quality work, improve and build upon the creation, and display or present it to the public. Printing paper and materials, color paper, markers, and crayons will allow students to edit and perfect their writing pieces. Bulletin board materials and laminating sheets will make for a display that can be preserved for presentation.
If this project is a success, my students will have the tools they need to create posters, brochures, documents and presentations that they can save electronically and take with them anywhere. My students will take more pride in their work because they will have the resources they need to make their work better. Lastly, they will be able to create and beautify their own display presentation after their work is published.
