Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This community outreach project will help to create community awareness to negative public health issues and advocate for positive change to the health and safety of their local community. This form of advocacy is important because my students live in the community they are serving. Therefore, they will be directly connected to the community programs that help solve problems affecting their community.

During the community showcase/ health fair, the students will: (1) share why the topics they chose are health issues to the community (2) explain their scientific findings, and (3) share solutions to the issue using evidence-based research.

After completing their research, students will use Canva to design an awareness poster that will be printed and laminated for display at each site. The awareness ads will also be posted in our schools and our surrounding East Oakland community. These resources will allow students to spread awareness about their chosen issues and effectively make positive change to their underserved and underserviced community.

For their presentations, they will be in several outdoor spaces, low-income dwellings, and underserved communities with large groups of community members. The students will then move throughout the community providing educational and advocacy approaches to solving problem in the community. We need a PA system to clearly and effectively share their posters with a large audience indoors and outdoors. We will need to amplify our voices to share our message clearly to the community.
