The Adaptive Living and Life Skills special education classes have opened an Employee Store to benefit the students in these three classes. This store provides a place for students to spend the “money” they are earning for working at their student-led businesses within the school and when working at the PAES Vocational Training Lab.
We are looking to fill a section of the store with highly desired food and drink items.
If the Employee Store is able to increase its inventory, there will be many benefits for all students. First, these students will gain access to some needed items that they may not be able to get from home. Second, one of the goals for all of the student-led businesses and working at the PAES Lab is to teach the value of hard work. We want to instill in our students the idea that in order to get things they want, they need to work/earn them. Rewards are not just given.
Along with this, our hope is to help our students gain a feeling of self-worth in earning their money for the store in exchange for their hard work. Many of our students’ families are not able to provide any of the “extras” to their children. Shopping at the Employee Store and using money that they have earned will help ease this burden for these families.
Lastly, the Employee Store provides another life skill opportunity for teaching students the value of money, the importance of saving, and how to determine if they have enough funds for desired objects.
