This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
After a Donors Choose fundraiser last school year provided academic planners for all of my students, I can say that the gifting of these planners made a huge difference in my students' approach to their learning. Last year, students used the planners daily to keep track of their assignments.
One of the key executive functioning skills that high school students need is planning for their academic tasks.
A physical planner provides students with the ability to maintain a weekly to-do list, track their assignments, note due dates, and plan incremental study sessions in order to chunk large projects into smaller segments. This chunking enables students to achieve success in high school, which is why planning is so important. For students with disabilities, challenges are often more pronounced. By funding this project, students will be enabled to overcome these challenges and learn effectively with decreased stress and additional freedom this year.
