Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are enrolling in a brand new K-9 charter school this Fall. My students live in a struggling socioeconomic climate in which their families work multiple jobs to provide. My students are enrolling in our school with hopes of academic improvement and increased opportunities to expand their experience of the world. My students want equality. My students want to be successful. My students want to feel like they matter and that's why they have chosen to enroll in our school.

I teach at a Title I School in East Las Vegas in which a high percentage of my students come from bilingual homes and all students receive free lunch.

My students have already faced challenges more difficult than most adults have to endure. My students are resilient and hard-working. My students believe that they have something to offer the world and our school's mission is to take that tenacious energy to change the way our community feels about itself. Our students are ready and we can't wait to show you what they will do.

My Project

My students are currently restricted to at-home learning although our local guidelines have allowed a small number of students to return to on-campus learning. Our hybrid model, which involves students learning on campus while other classmates learn simultaneously from home using virtual means, is effective but has proven to be very challenging, especially for physical education. I need to be mobile and circulate among the on-campus students while maintaining connectivity with the virtual students - something I cannot do with a laptop or computer.

My students need their teacher to be flexible and mobile in order to effectively teach a high-quality physical education class in the hybrid model and this iPad is the key to that process.

With this iPad, I would be able to move freely among the classroom and its students while also staying directly connected to my virtual students. My intention is to keep my instruction equitable for each student, no matter where they are located. An iPad permits me to provide immediate feedback and avoid the restrictions that I would encounter with an laptop or desktop computer. We must improve our teaching adapt even more than we already have if we want to see continued progress. I know that this iPad will make an immediate impact to my teaching and improve the learning environment for over 600 students that I see within the week.
