My Project

All my students are working harder than ever before in the "aftermath" of the COVID pandemic. Things aren't yet back to normal, but we are making steady progress. To encourage positive behavior and decision making as well as academic improvements, we have a couple of different reward systems. We have a marble jar that the class collectively works to fill with marbles for a class prize.

In addition, students can individually earn Nēnē Kālā (tickets/money) for demonstrating Hōʻihi (respect), Koa (courage), or Kuleana (responsibility).

Every two weeks they have a chance to exchange their Nēnē Kālā for prizes at our classroom store. This token economy is effective because students make the association between the prizes and the marbles/tickets for engaging in desired behaviors. The materials chosen will stock our class store to reward students for their efforts. The system is already increasing positive behaviors, we just need some variety and restocking.
