My Students
My students come from a wide range of interests and backgrounds. They are very hard workers and will put their minds to anything put in front of them.
Their creativity is astounding and they can produce amazing things if materials are available to them.
My students have created a mousetrap vehicle, an airplane, a Rube Goldburg machine and a thermodynamic device using only materials that were being discarded.
The majority of my students qualify for the government assisted free lunch program.
My Project
Science Olympiad is an international, nonprofit organization devoted to improving the quality of science education, increasing student interest in science and providing recognition for outstanding achievement in science education. These goals are accomplished through research, training workshops and encouragement of intramural, district, regional, state and national tournaments.
The laboratory materials will be used to develop critical thinking skills for advancing the STEM program in our school.
These skills will make my students more competitive in the future workforce. Science Olympiad tournaments are rigorous academic interscholastic competitions that consist of a series of individual and team events, which students prepare for during the year.
These challenging and motivational events are well balanced among the various science disciplines of biology, earth science, chemistry, engineering, physics and computers. Events balance students’ knowledge of science facts, concepts, process skills and science applications.
