it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Many of my students with autism rely on their communication devices to express their thoughts, needs and emotions. These devices are essential for their learning and daily interactions. Unfortunately, the NYC Department of Education Assistive Technology department no longer provides screen protectors, leaving the devices vulnerable to damage. Since this change, many devices have been broken. The Assistive Technology team is overwhelmed with replacements and repairs, creating a long backlog. This means students are left without their communication devices for extended periods -- sometimes up to three months.
Without their communication devices, my students struggle to express their basic wants and needs, participate in class and engage with their peers -- often leading to frustration, anxiety and missed learning opportunities.
I am seeking donations to purchase durable screen protectors to add an extra layer of protection for these vital tools. These protectors can help prevent damage and reduce the number of broken devices. With this extra layer of protection, my students can continue communicating without disruption. Together, we can help ensure that my students always have access to their voices!
