My Students
I have had the pleasure of teaching students in my current school district for nearly 26 years. Many students in our district are below or at the poverty level and our school currently offers free breakfast and lunch to all students. Our district is very diverse and that is what makes working with the students exceptionally enlightening.
The one thing that never changes in my school is the students’ love of learning.
This year the students not only have had to learn and adjust to being "in school", many for the first time, but they have had to learn about "remote/virtual learning". They have approached this new type of learning as excited and motivated as they were the moment they walked through the doors for "traditional classroom learning".
My Project
The frequent and unpredictable times we are faced with remote learning has increased over the past two years. This year we were fortunate to acquire Chrome Tablets for each Kindergarten student for the purpose of home learning.
The first day the students took the tablets home for a remote learning day, a tablet screen was cracked during transportation from school to home.
This became a worry because students at this age (5-6 years old) have difficulty controlling those impulses that can lead to damage to the devices (unintentionally).
I want students to be confident in taking a learning device home and not worrying about damaging the item. They have enough things to worry about and focus on during these Covid times. By having the tablets secure in a padded sleeve will alleviate the worry of damaging the device and allow more focus on the task of utilizing the device as a learning tool. The availability of using a stylus rather than a finger to practice writing will make the online assignments more relatable to the actual writing that would have been done in class with paper and pencil.
