This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher, I have the privilege of guiding and teaching students with a wide variety of knowledge, life experiences, and unique personalities that cannot be replicated. My students come from a wide variety of socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds, with the majority of them residing in the west side of Chicago. The students rely on school-owned instruments and resources, as 95% of my students do not own an instrument or have access to outside programs for music.
Despite the circumstances, these facts do not stop these young minds from putting forth their best efforts into the newly developing music program.
My students have committed themselves to musical excellence, developing their musicianship and pushing themselves to sharpen their musical talents and abilities. It is my goal to give these students the necessary tools to help them succeed not only at the high school level, but potentially prepare them for the collegiate music level. Above all else, I would love to provide my students with the best experience that I have to offer here. And with your contribution, you will give our music program the necessary instruments and equipment to help our program grow!
My Project
For the past year, our instrumental inventory has grown and students are now making the best use of playing our new instruments. However, this now leaves us with a new inventory of unprotected instruments, with a few of them already receiving damage due to having no case or protection. For this reason, I hope to give my students new cases for the instruments that they use on a daily basis.
With new cases on our guitars and basses, our instruments can last 3 times longer than they would without protective cases!
As well as protecting our instruments, this will teach our students how to properly care for and tend to instruments that are in new condition and in used condition. They are deserving of these new cases to allow for an extended use of their instruments. This way, they will continue to increase their musical abilities without worrying about coming to school to damaged instruments!
