I teach at a school with students from a wide range of economic and social backgrounds, causing a huge imbalance of technology and information access. Additionally we are magnet school for students with autism, and have a large special needs population with many students on IEPs that require access to differentiated technological aides. Recently, thanks to the efforts of Donors Choose, we received some much needed Chromebook computers, but have no way to charge and protect them.
Unfortunately, our district and school does not have the means to provide any materials to protect our technology investment, and I fear that our Chromebooks may be broken or stolen.
I am hoping that Donors Choose can come to the rescue and get us a locking laptop cart to protect our precious new tech!
Because our district no longer orders History and Social Studies textbooks, the use of Chromebooks has finally afforded my student's equal access to the content we study so that my students can learn despite their growing economic diversity. These Chromebooks have also provided new and inspiring modes of learning for my extremely diverse student population, including many students with special needs. The problem we are now facing is that we are unable to safely charge and protect our precious new technology. We are in desperate need of a Chromebook cart!
Because of our extremely limited budget and increasingly large student population living in poverty, our school is not able to provide any way for us to charge and protect our new technology.
Unfortunately, without a way to charge and protect our technology, the Chromebooks are suffering the risk of imminent damage and theft.
In the long run, the protection of our Chromebooks through a locking charging cart will save our school and district money by eliminating the costs of paper, ink, and other related supplies, as well as expanding the life of our Chromebooks.
These Chromebooks enhance student engagement through access to the differentiated content, meeting the needs of my extremely diverse student population. Not only do the Chromebooks aid in differentiating content, but they help in differentiating the learning process and assessment of my students as well. Let's get them protected so we can use them for years to come!
