My Project
Proposal for Environmental Efficiency Audit at Wright Tech
At Wright Technical High School, our students are eager to improve our school's environmental efficiency through a hands-on, NGSS-aligned project.
Our initial audit has already identified a major issue—the complete lack of recycling bins. To address this, we will place bins in strategic locations and monitor their effectiveness. This will serve as the foundation for a broader environmental initiative, empowering students to take action and drive meaningful change.
Beyond just adding bins, our goal is to foster a culture of sustainability. Students will lead an awareness campaign using posters, digital media, and school announcements to educate their peers on the benefits of recycling. This directly supports NGSS Science and Engineering Practices by incorporating science communication, data analysis, and systems thinking. By engaging the entire school community, we hope to shift behaviors and establish long-term sustainable habits.
Once the recycling program is underway, students will conduct a deeper environmental audit, identifying and analyzing other issues such as plastic waste, energy inefficiency, or the absence of solar panels. Using critical thinking and problem-solving skills, they will develop evidence-based solutions. This aligns with NGSS standards by emphasizing data collection, engineering design, and scientific inquiry in real-world contexts.
Through this project, students will gain hands-on experience in environmental science, leadership, and advocacy. They will learn to assess environmental issues, propose solutions, and engage their peers in making a tangible impact. Donor support will provide essential resources like recycling bins, educational materials, and auditing tools. With your help, we can create a lasting sustainability program at Wright Tech and inspire students to become environmental stewards both in school and beyond.
