My Students

Our middle school is a community of learners - students and teachers! Our school as a whole has made significant strides to achieve rigorous academic standards. Our music department has certainly been an established and visible representation of our school's progressive energy.

The orchestra is a highlighted program of our school because the students continue to reach new heights of success.

Growing from 75 students to as many as 180 in the past 6 years, the students have worked diligently to give more than 20 performances throughout the school year. Ninety percent of my students use school-issued instruments. The orchestra students have performed at school, at neighboring schools, as soloists, and in small ensembles throughout the district. I love how we celebrate something in our class almost every day. The energy of a middle school classroom is multiplied in our orchestra class because I have students who feel empowered, successful, and loved.

I am so honored to be their teacher!

My Project

As a Title I school, 90% of my students use school-issued instruments at no cost to them. Basic supplies for participating in orchestra must be provided by the student.

Rosin, shoulder rests, and rock stops are basic supplies absolutely necessary for providing efficient instruction for students in orchestra.

Students who do not have good shoulder rest often resort to cloths or sponges that collapse or fall off the instrument because they lack sturdy support of the instrument. Quality shoulder rests provide my hardworking, dedicated violinists and violists a solid foundation for them to hold their instruments properly. Over time, shoulder rests often prevent shoulder and arm injury. With proper posture, learning to play an instrument will be a gift that will keep on giving!
