For our students, it does not matter that a majority of them come from low-income families and many are not afforded the same opportunities as others. They still come to school each day excited to learn and interested to see what their teachers have created for them to explore.
Our students are energetic and creative, and we want to foster that energy in such a way that their creativity comes alive with hands-on activities.
Research has shown that students from low-income families typically develop academic skills slower than their peers from higher income families. Our students continue to beat the odds with their performance on a daily basis and even on high-stakes testing. We are very proud of their accomplishments and want to be able to encourage their growth and experiences by providing meaningful opportunities for them.
My Project
The language of technology is called coding. As stated by Apple Inc., "Learning to code teaches you how to solve problems and work together in creative ways, and it helps you build apps that bring your ideas to life." We recently purchased several items to initiate the start up of a new MakerSpace in our media center. The goal of our MakerSpace is to encourage our students to see themselves as inventors, engineers, and creators.
Many of the items we purchased require tablets or other similar devices to develop coding skills, to power inventions, and to manipulate creations.
Please help me secure the devices needed to launch the technology we have purchased.
