My Students
My students enter the kindergarten classroom eager, anxious, and willing to learn. It is very important that each of them is met at his or her developmental level and is taught in a way that keeps them excited and engaged in learning.
The students in my kindergarten classroom are excited about learning and come to the classroom with a wide range of skills, expectations, expertise, and abilities.
These students are ready to become 21st Century learners by learning cooperation and content through the tools of tomorrow!
My Project
Tom Hunter said, "Sitting still is overrated. It makes sense for the opera or for meditating, but in most classrooms and child care centers, it's given far more honor than it deserves. Children need to move." All young children need movement for learning, but it is especially important for students on the autism spectrum, with sensory processing needs, or with ADHD. All of us are unique and have different learning needs and strengths, and learning to respect that diversity is part of learning tolerance. In a classroom that includes flexible seating, children begin to learn that other people are different from themselves, and that's okay! Additionally, they are able to experience different types of learning and "walk in another's shoes" by sitting in another's type of seat.
As students are able to rock and tilt in all directions on their Hokki stools, those students with special needs will be accommodated, while other students will gain tolerance for the unique needs of others in the class.
