Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

To learn science, images are key. As a Health and Life Science teacher to a talented group of 7th graders at South Gate Middle School in South East Los Angeles, I would like to promote creativity through artistic expression. The 2006-2007 school year will be the first for our new small learning community called The Academy of Visual and Performing Arts. The students that will fill my classroom are interested in pursuing the ideals of their elective arts within all of their core subjects. In order to promote their passion to use their creativity, I would like to transform my science classroom to provide necessary resources to encourage my students to develop their talents. Currently I only have chalkboards which do not allow for artistic drawings. Having 2 portable white board easels around the classroom will allow me to model scientific drawings as my students produce them in their seats. Also, my students are musically and dramatically inclined therefore I would like to have some tape recorders available for them to explore music and sounds in their reenactment of scientific processes.
