This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are little, but they can accomplish many things! The majority of my students come from low income, high poverty families. We are a Title One school in Baltimore City. Despite these challenges, I hope to give these children the same experiences students of the same age group get in other districts.
My students constantly look out for each other and encourage each other to strive.
In addition, my students are very compassionate and understanding of others’ needs. They share everything: school supplies, books, and even clothing.
Many of my students have experienced challenges in their lives, but still, come to school every day ready to grow and learn. My students work harder than most to overcome the barriers they face in order to be successful!
My Project
Student participation is incredibly important in our everyday lives. With school being virtual, it is a difficult task to help students stay focused and engaged in daily lessons. While this is the safest decision for students and staff, many of my students do not have a shoulder buddy to remind them to stay focused.
The best way to promote student engagement is to give students the materials they can use during our daily virtual meetings.
With your help, I will be able to provide my students with puppets and whiteboard paddles. Students will be more engaged in our Haggerty phonemic activities by giving them the opportunity to use puppets to demonstrate hand motions. In addition, the whiteboard paddles will allow my students to write answers and easily share their ideas with the class.
Please help support student engagement during at-home learning. This opportunity will help proved students with rigorous academic foundations that lead to happiness, wisest, most competent, and skilled individuals.
