This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I currently teach 4th grade in a Dual Language ICT Classroom. In an Integrated Co-teaching class (ICT), students with disabilities learn alongside general ed students who don't have learning disabilities or special needs. Because of the pandemic, I am now teaching all students in 4th grade remotely. We have a total of 44 students in 4th grade.

What happens in our virtual classroom every day is determined by our instructional practice.

If you currently walk into our virtual classroom you will experience whole group and small-group instruction, challenging and text-dependent questions that promote engaging and meaningful discussions, more non-fiction close readings, instructional scaffolding, and extensive writing opportunities.

My Project

Promoting social and emotional development for all students in classrooms involves teaching and modeling social and emotional skills, providing opportunities for students to practice and hone those skills, and giving students an opportunity to apply these skills in various situations.

Students can be highly sensitive to their environment.

When they’re away from their comfort zone (their home), they can feel uneasy and restless. This is especially true if they’re new to the place and unfamiliar with the people. And sometimes, even the constant chatter and noise around them can make them feel uncomfortable or a bit stressed if they’re exposed to it all the time.

For kids that have a harder time getting comfortable in such situations, a pair of headphones could be helpful. It can help create a personal space within the classroom/home that they can come back to when they’re feeling a bit anxious or stressed.

Teachers or parents can dedicate a few minutes of “alone time” during class through the use of headphones. They can give things educational material or activities that can be used with the headphones so they’ll remain productive in class while allowing them to relax and take a break from the noise and activity around them.
