Our elementary school is a small community with a diverse group of students that come from different backgrounds. The students have a variety of interest and abilities. The students at our school are driven to learn and deserve a reward system that has positive incentives and in turn creates a positive and more rich learning environment.
The students at our elementary school are very bright and have the potential to be successful additions to the community.
The students and teachers here have a very close and trusting relationship. The students look up to their teachers for guidance and wisdom. Teachers strive to be the model of what we want our students to be. The teachers want to practice positive behavior and in turn help mold students to be that positive and responsible young adult.
My Project
All of the students at our elementary school follow the same behavior system. Teachers have realized that our students need more positive reinforcement and should be rewarded for their good behavior. Our school adopted PBIS which stands for Positive Behavior Intervention and Support. Classroom PBIS practices include preventative and responsive approaches that may be effectively implemented with all students in a classroom and intensified to support small groups or a few individual students.
Classroom PBIS strategies are important tools to decrease disruptions, increase instructional time, and improve student social behavior and academic outcomes; which is critical as schools are held to greater accountability for student outcomes and teacher effectiveness.
Teaching positive and appropriate behavior, instead of punishing misbehavior, is the goal of PBIS. The rewards will help the school implement the system and provide engaging and rewarding incentives to promote that good behavior. The rewards chosen for the project were decided based on our students interest such as bouncy balls and slap bracelets. We want them to know what they are working for and track their points to get the prize they desire! The prizes such as the play dough and an also be prizes that enhance education and motivate students academically.
