Promoting Play In Kindergarten

My students need one Carolina Market, one Carolina Kitchen Cupboard with Microwave, one Carolina Kitchen Range, Counting Cans, Plastic Cookware and Dining Set, one Calculator Cash Register, a Pots & Pans set, and Play-Time Produce Vegetables and Fruit.

My Students

Young children learn best through play, drama, and exploring. Our Kindergarteners love to tap into their imaginations and enter into a world of make believe.

I teach a class of twenty-two incredible Kindergarteners who have named themselves The Moon Jellyfish.

This year is especially exciting for us as we are the first cohort of kindergarteners at our brand new charter school. As we build our school in this first year we have noticed that we are in need of more materials to help foster dramatic play among our students. At our school, we believe in the power of play to help develop language, social skills, and problem solving abilities. Play also offers opportunities for students to practice their math, reading, and writing skills. With our limited resources, our students have been very creative in how they play.

My Project

I am requesting a play market, kitchen, range, plastic cookware, a dining set, pots and pans, and play vegetables and fruit. I envision the play kitchen and marketplace will open up even more opportunities for students to be imaginative during that time. Students will use the Counting Cans and calculator register to practice math skills.

The addition of more dramatic play materials into our classroom will make our brand new space feel more like an early childhood environment.

Our students will have so much fun thinking of all the different games they can play with the pretend kitchen and marketplace. With their inventive minds, the opportunities are endless!
