My Students
I teach an amazing multi-age preschool class. My students have various disabilities including speech and developmental delays.
Most come from economically disadvantaged homes and are able to attend preschool on scholarships.
My students are a family of learners who support and care for each other! The spirit of cooperation and caring in my classroom facilitates learning for all. My younger children are able to accomplish tasks they could not do without the assistance of older children. My older children have the opportunity to serve as mentors and to take leadership roles. Both age groups benefit from increased self-confidence and independence!
My Project
I wish to incorporate technology (Kindle Fire) into my character education curriculum by giving my students the opportunity to work cooperatively and enjoy interactive games that encourage tolerance and celebrate diversity. Avokiddo Emotions, Toca Life: Town, Dr. Panda, Daniel Tiger's Grr-ific Feelings and Artie's World are just a few of the apps that will keep my students actively engaged while allowing them to develop a multicultural understanding and respect for others.
Developing character strengths and life skills is essential to kids' overall growth and success.
Traits and strategies like communication, compassion, courage, curiosity, empathy, gratitude, perseverance, self-control, and teamwork help kids learn, create, and relate to other people (as well as themselves) in healthy ways.
I wish to explore the world with my students through Scholastic's My Big World Magazine. This magazine explores simple, nonfiction seasonal and social development topics. My students will gain a greater sense of the people, animals, weather etc... in the world around. They will learn that each person is essential in creating a future world filled with tolerance, respect and kindness.
