I believe every child deserves the opportunity for an excellent education, and I am proud to partner with my school, other educators, families, and community leaders to strive toward this goal. I teach in a high poverty school zone in which 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. These amazing students need additional support because most of them come from low-income single family households of which many have little to no support or resources. Despite some of the challenges they face in and around their environment, every year my students come to school excited, full of life, and eager to learn.
As the 2016 and 2019 Teacher of the Year as well as an alumni of Metro Atlanta Teach for America, I choose to continue to significantly impact the life trajectories of students in our region’s high-need communities.
In our school district, we follow a PBIS system. PBIS encourages and enforces positive behavior throughout the student body. If a student is following all expectations, we give them a point through the PBIS rewards app.
We normally have PBIS parties once a month, however, due to COVID-19 we have switched to classroom prize incentives instead of school-wide parties for students with enough points.
I would like to give my students the PBIS class store of their dreams. As of now, I am giving free prizes as their incentives when they cash out their points. However, I would love the give them the option of these fun prizes and make it a true classroom "PBIS store." These prizes will help get our classroom PBIS store started.
