This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a high school math teacher and have a room full of standard plastic chairs. I would love to start building a collection of comfortable chairs for my students to sit in while taking the time they need in our calm corner. My students struggle with a lot of stress and anxiety and often just need a time out to regroup in a space away from the rest of the class.
Having comfortable seating in my calm corner plays a crucial role in promoting both physical well-being and better mental health for my students.
Being physically comfortable when feeling overwhelmed or stressed can help reduce the stress, improve focus, and enhance overall engagement in lessons. Also, having comfortable seating contributes to a positive classroom environment where my students will feel more relaxed and able to concentrate, fostering better mental health and emotional well-being. I am trying to create a space that supports both the academic and psychological needs of students, ultimately enhancing learning outcomes and reducing anxiety.
