Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are promoting literacy and independent reading at PP middle school in Yonkers, New York! Our hope is to encourage our students to read on their own. Independent reading will enable our children to tap into the imagination. Many of our students are unable to use their imaginations to create because they lack the firsthand experiences that so many of us take for granted. Reading will help our students to analyze and experience the world through others' lives until they can experience it on their own.

My Project

Through our new literacy initiative called, Read2B our hope is to help our students cultivate a love of reading and encourage them read on their own. We are teaching the students how to access eBooks but many of our students do not have the appropriate technology that we often take for granted. We would like to award iPads to two of our students as a reward for reading the most books. This will allow them to continue to read independently and hopefully make it easier for them to complete their assignments during this challenging time.
