My Students
I teach at a rural school that is funded by Title I and has a high poverty level. Most of the students in my school are either on free or reduced lunches.
Every day students come to school with a smiling face and ready to rock the day! I feel that this is a reflection of our school's community and positive morale. Our day always begins with several hugs and exciting news that they have to share with all the teachers.
My Project
Students need the opportunity to learn about financial literacy and what better way to teach than through a daily class store. Not only do students need to learn financial literacy, they need to be taught to choose healthy snacks that will fuel their brain for learning.
Through this project, students will be able to earn tickets for good behavior and then turn around and spend their earned tickets on a healthy snack option that will fuel their brain for learning. We know that when we are hungry, our brain tends to focus on food. This store will allow students the financial opportunity to choose the healthy snack they would like for the day. The more tickets students have, the better options they have for snacks.
